Soccerfest clinic to be held at Potomac State April 9

Potomac State College of West Virginia University will hold a ‘Soccerfest’ clinic on Saturday, April 9 for various age groups.  Check-in begins at 9:15 a.m.  Age groups for four-to-six years and seven-to-nine years will begin at 9:30 a.m.  Age group 10-13 years will begin at 12:30 p.m

Soccerfest is open to both boys and girls and will focus solely on the fundamentals of the game through creative teaching exercises that will keep the players interested and having fun, all the while providing players with the opportunity to develop a solid foundation that will help them at every level of the game.  Goalkeepers will receive individual training.

In addition to a water bottle, each camper must bring shin guards, cleats or tennis shoes with them. Limited concessions will also be available.

The tournament portion of the day will be held after the clinic for each age group.  Youth Soccer Leaders will have input into the ability levels of players as they are placed on teams in their age group, attempting to make teams as even as possible.  Participants are guaranteed at least two games. Players on first- and second-place teams will receive medals.

Soccerfest is being sponsored by Coaches Ray Kiddy and Mark Sprouse.  Coach Kiddy is in his 37th season of coaching soccer at the collegiate or high school level. He completed his 6th season as the head coach of the Men’s Soccer team this past fall.  Coach Kiddy holds a National Soccer Coaching License.  Coach Sprouse completed his 15th season this year as the Head Coach for the Lady Catamounts. The Women’s Soccer team has had nine straight winning seasons under his direction.  Coach Sprouse has also coached soccer at the ODP and high school levels.
