College/Community Holiday Concert scheduled at Potomac State for Nov. 29
The Potomac State College of West Virginia University/Community Concert Band will perform A Holiday Concert on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Church-McKee Arts Center Auditorium. The band is directed by Richard T. Frush and will feature a variety of sacred and secular holiday-themed selections.
Included will be Robert W. Smith's magnificent arrangement of Holst's In The Bleak Midwinter featuring clarinet soloist Shirley Hackworth. The challenging and powerful Elliot Del Borgo arrangement Christmas Variants will also be performed. This selection is based on the traditional advent chant O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.
"I Wonder As I Wander and With Every Winter's Breath are beautiful compositions that allow the wind band to explore and convey to the audience the many emotions of musicality and dynamics,” stated Frush.
A Chanukah Celebration features five traditional songs from the Jewish Festival of Lights: Chanukah, Dreydle Song, O Chanukah, Rock of Ages and Who Can Retell.
Composer David Lovrien twists your favorite melodies into something new and inventive in Minor Alterations: Christmas Through The Looking Glass. This medley is full of musical surprises from start to finish.
To close the concert, the band will invite the audience to join them in singing along as they perform the traditional Christmas Sing-A-Long for Band and Audience.
This Holiday Concert is free of admission and the public is cordially invited to attend and celebrate the season with the Potomac State College/Community Concert Band.
