Skyliners coming to Keyser October 14th
If you were to put together the harmonies of the best ‘50s R&B groups and mix them with The Four Freshmen and The Hi-Los, the result would be the Skyliners who are set to appear as the Highland Arts Unlimited season continues at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14 at the Church-McKee Arts Center at Potomac State College.
The original group consisted of lead Jimmy Beaumont and Wally Lester, Jack Taylor, Joe Verscharen and Janet Vogel. They were recognized because it was somewhat unusual at the time for a vocal group to have a female member.
Although "Since I Don't Have You" was their first and biggest hit, they had several top-ten hits over the years, including "Pennies from Heaven," "It Happened Today," and "This I Swear."
Original member Jimmy Beaumont is featured with the current members including Nick Pociask, Frank Czuri, and Donna Groom.
Admission for the upcoming concert is free to HAU members. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Area students under 18 are admitted free and young children are admitted free with a paying adult. Potomac State College students get in free with their student ids.
Advance tickets are available at Anderson's Corner, Romney; Reed’s Drug Store and The Candlewyck, Keyser; the Allegany Arts Council in Cumberland or by calling 304-788-3066 or 304-788-9465.
On-line tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.com
This year’s programs are funded in part by individual memberships and contributions, grants from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and financial assistance from Potomac State College, the Mineral County Board of Education and corporate sponsors.
