Potomac State 2017 Homecoming activities update

Mark your calendars for West Virginia University Potomac State College’s homecoming, to be held Friday, October 6 and Saturday, October 7.  Many events are scheduled throughout the weekend.

The 50’s group will hold their annual dinner at the Candlewyck Inn on Friday, October 6 beginning at 6 p.m.  The cost is $22.50 per person.

A light brunch and Renaming Ceremony’ is scheduled for Saturday, October 7 at the former Upper Farm beginning at 10:30 a.m.  Renaming includes the Ag Tech Facility, Green House, Upper Farm, and the Fort Ashby Farm in honor of the Starcher, Gustafson and Malone families.

The Mary F. Shipper Library will also unveil and conduct a demonstration, exhibiting the ability of their new drone to stream live video and fly automated missions.  Equipped with high resolution cameras and specialized sensors, drone technology can offer new perspectives to farmers, like monitoring herds in real time, managing crops, and addressing problems that can arise when animals are giving birth. 

The annual Alumni Baseball game, beginning at noon at Golden Park, will have activities for the whole family; face painting and a jump house for the kids, along with hot dogs and adult beverages will be available. 

The College bookstore will open from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. for those interested in purchasing PSC or WVU memorabilia.  And don’t forget to stop by the Mary F. Shipper Library which will be open from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. 

The following alumni are being honored at the banquet: F. Scott Rotruck, Class of 1975, Alumni Achievement Award; Mara Boggs, Class of 1998, Distinguished Service Award; Chance Coughenour, Class of 2002 and Randi Dove, Class of 2012, Young Alumni Achievement Award. A Bluegrass concert will follow the banquet. 

The banquet is being held in the Davis Conference Center.  Social Hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m.  The cost of the dinner is $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.  RSVPs are required and the deadline for reservations for the Awards Banquet and the 50’s Get Together is today, Friday, September 29.
