The Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship (SAGE) Program is offered at Potomac State College, located on the WVU Keyser campus, where you’ll take business and agriculture courses and gain hands-on experience. With three farms, 800+ acres of land, numerous livestock enterprises, quarter and draft horses, crops, forests, and advanced labs, our program offers some of the best opportunities in the tri-state region.
We are pleased to announce that we have reinvented and enhanced the Equine Management
major and are now offering it through the Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship
(SAGE) two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree with the option of continuing
into the four-year SAGE BAS degree.
Because of new trends in the Equine industry, our equine-focused students are pursuing more entrepreneurial endeavors and small-business enterprises. More than ever, students are interested in starting popular income-earning businesses like therapeutic, wellness and general riding instruction, personal training, farrier services and education, stable management, equestrian chiropractics, event planning and equine photography.
Under SAGE, equine-focused students will learn equine arena and stable management, proper nutrition and animal husbandry, pasture management and rotational grazing, cost management practices for maintaining a stable of hours, and profit maximization through unique events and community outreach. SAGE and Equine courses are taught by actual Ag-business owners and instructors that have real-world business experience.
WVU Potomac State College is the only college in West Virginia offering a two-year associate of applied science in agriculture production.
The SAGE (Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship) Program (BAS) gives you
a real-life, hands-on education and prepares you for the everchanging farm-to-table
