Potomac State College of West Virginia University is a great place to "Start Smart" and begin your higher educational career. As a two-year residential division of West Virginia University, Potomac State College offers the prestige of a major school with the friendliness of a small campus. You get the best of both places: A curriculum designed at a well-respected research university delivered in a smaller classroom setting. In fact 82% of our classes have fewer than 30 students, while 50% of our classes have fewer than 20 students.
Our two-year associate of arts program gives you the necessary background and skills to not only continue your studies at a four-year school, but also to excel. Choose from 49 majors for transfer to WVU's main campus in Morgantown, W.Va.,or to other colleges and universities across the nation.
Fast Start- While many of our students are in two-year transfer programs, we also offer two-year fast track programs to get you started sooner on a career. Check out our new equine management major, where students get first-hand experience working with the College's horses. Or, if restaurant management is more your style, our hospitality program features the instruction of Executive Chef Thomas Vieli and his international experience and extensive training. Students can also complete an associate degree in applied science (A.A.S.) in Agriculture Technology, Business Technology, Criminal Justice, Computer Information Systems, Office Specialist and Machinist Technology.
Start Here, Finish Here- Students can complete a four-year, bachelor of applied science degree, in Business Management or in Criminal Justice without transferring to another campus.
Potomac State College makes it possible for adults to complete a bachelor's degree through West Virginia University's Regents program. The program differs from other baccalaureate degrees in that Regents students - in addition to taking traditional college courses - may earn college-equivalent credit for selected work and life experiences that can be equated to college courses. Students write comprehensive portfolios to obtain such credit.
The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive general education without the requirement of a major. No specific courses are required for graduation, allowing students to design their own programs of study..
Personal attention on a growing campus - While our small-college environment allows us to provide individual attention to our students, our campus is more than you might expect. The focal point of our 18-acre campus is our two-year-old, $19 million residential complex, University Place, which complements our other three existing residence halls. A renovated library and 27,500-square-foot, indoor riding arena add to the impact of our 20+ building campus.
We are located in Keyser, WV, in the heart of the state's gorgeous eastern panhandle -- great recreation country for hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, and white-water rafting. Live on campus in one of our active residence halls or save money and commute. And, by all means, get involved. We offer plenty of student clubs, organizations, intramurals, as well as a winning athletic tradition in eight intercollegiate sports.
