A drone obstacle course in the Mary F. Shipper Library on the campus of WVU Potomac State College was one of the many hands-on activities at the 2019 STEM Festival. Due to the pandemic, the 2020 STEM Festival was canceled, and the 2021 STEM Festival was held as a virtual event. This year, an in-person STEM Festival is planned for Saturday, March 26, from noon to 4 p.m., on the PSC campus. The STEM committee is currently accepting proposals for presentations for the upcoming festival.

Potomac State College students represent state as Environmental, Natural Resources Team at National FFA Convention, Expo

WVU Potomac State College students make up the majority of the state’s FFA Environmental and Natural Resources Team. The team attended this past fall’s 94th National FFA Convention and Expo, in Indianapolis, Ind. Pictured from left are: Lara Bittinger, a junior at Frankfort High School from Wiley Ford, W.Va.; John Bittinger, a PSC freshman mechanical engineering major from Wiley Ford, W.Va.; Sarah Sions, a PSC freshman wildlife and fisheries major from Purgitsville, W.Va.; and Rachael Brinkman, a PSC freshman pre-veterinary major from New Creek, W.Va. The team received a silver medal at the national convention.

WVU Potomac State College Announces President’s List for Fall 2021

West Virginia University Potomac State College President Jennifer Orlikoff is pleased to announce that 164 students earned a place on the President’s list for fall 2021. To be eligible for the President’s List, a student must be enrolled for at least 12-credit hours of graded courses, excluding courses in which any grade of Audit, Pass or Incomplete is recorded, and must earn a grade-point average of 3.700 or higher for the semester.

WVU Potomac State College Announces Dean’s List for Fall 2021

WVU Potomac State College Dean of Academic Affairs Greg Ochoa is pleased to announce that 246 students earned a place on the Dean’s list for fall 2021. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled for at least 12-credit hours of graded courses, excluding courses in which any grade of Audit, Pass or Incomplete is recorded, and must maintain a grade-point average of 3.000 to 3.699 for the semester.

Branch receives Climb Higher award at WVU Potomac State College

Deandre Branch, a sports management student from Oshawa in Ontario, Canada, has been awarded the Climb Higher award at West Virginia University Potomac State College.  

The award recognizes resiliency for overcoming personal adversity, exemplifying an outstanding work ethic inside and outside of the classroom, practicing kindness, and for displaying a positive attitude.

West Virginia University reminds students, faculty and staff across all campuses that it is extremely important to follow current public health guidance for individual, as well as campus community safety, in light of the continued rise in COVID-19 cases due to the omicron variant. Health experts predict the surge in positive cases may peak in West Virginia over the next two weeks.

The University strongly encourages, but does not require, everyone to stay optimally protected against COVID-19 by getting their primary vaccine series and staying up to date with a booster dose if they are eligible to receive one. Vaccines continue to be readily available.

WVU provides updated COVID-19 guidance for spring 2022 semester opening (Info specific to Potomac State College included)

West Virginia University is committed to providing an on-campus learning experience as the spring 2022 semester approaches; however, with the rise in COVID-19 cases across the country and throughout the state because of the omicron variant, the University is implementing several updated campus health and safety protocols ahead of the start of classes that begin on Monday, Jan. 10.

“Given the prevalence of the omicron variant and evidence that it likely is more transmissible than previous strains, including the delta variant, we are taking several measures to limit the potential spread of COVID-19 as students, faculty and staff return to campus,” said  Dr. Jeffrey Coben, dean of the  School of Public Health and associate vice president for  Health Affairs. “Now more than ever, we are asking our unvaccinated students, faculty and staff to get a COVID-19 vaccine and for those who are vaccinated to get a booster if they are eligible.”
