This was the second year of Shipper STEAM Days: Big Adventures with Bluey held in the Mary F. Shipper Library on Saturday, May 17, 2025! It was a huge success!
Area children engaged in STEAM-related (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) activities and crafts with stations led by WVU Potomac State College faculty and staff volunteers. The activities ranged from making slime, designing catapults, learning about insects, and searching for local fossils.
The event was supported by grants from Remake Learning Days and the J. Norman & Margaret J. Reeves Private Foundation. The PSC Alumni Association's generous approval of the library staff’s request for funds to acquire a Bluey costume made the event an even bigger hit! The Big Adventures with Bluey is returning next year to the Mary F. Shipper Library, on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Mark your calendar! The next Shipper STEAM Day theme is Dinovember, and is scheduled on Saturday, November 8. Special guests from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC) Dinosaur Park are bringing real dinosaur fossils collected near our nation's capital. There will also be an advanced screening of an episode from the six-part BBC/PBS documentary series Walking with Dinosaurs. This event is made possible for free by the MNCPPC.
