Hello, Fellow Alumni!
This spring brought us lots of celebrations! In April, the WVU Potomac State College
Alumni Association helped support the Student Scholarship Recipient & Donor
Appreciation Luncheon. This event, designed to connect students and donors, was
a tremendous success. We were able to hear messages from fellow alumni and from
students who have received scholarships. I’m so appreciative of our alumni who
donated, and continue to donate, to WVU Potomac State College to support our students.
Commencement was held in May. I had the pleasure of speaking and welcoming recent graduates to the WVU Potomac State College Alumni Association. I encouraged them to cherish the friendships and memories they made while they were students, and I challenged them to stay connected in the years ahead.
In August, students will return to campus eager to begin or continue their academic journeys. We have an amazing Move-in Day Welcome Committee comprised of five alumni who will share a smile, a warm Catamount greeting, a cold bottle of water, and fun Alumni Association branded giveaways. Move-in Day is an opportunity for the Alumni Association to let students know that they are now part of the Catamount family.
In September, we are excited to host on campus Carl “Denny” Avers, a Class of 1961 alum, who was designated the Whitmore–Gates Scholar during Recognition Day held in the spring. Denny is a distinguished graduate who has received numerous awards for his career achievements and volunteer efforts. He has provided financial gifts that have enhanced WVU Potomac State College’s commitment to preserving and disseminating local history records and information. Thank you, Denny, for your commitment to WVU Potomac State College.
We will celebrate Homecoming the first weekend in October! This special time allows alumni to “come home.” There are so many events planned throughout the weekend — a memorial walk, an alumni social, breakfast at the Mary F. Shipper Library, an Alumni Association Board meeting, a Catamount Cook-out on the Quad, numerous sporting events, and the Alumni Association and Athletic Hall of Fame Reception & Awards Ceremony. Be on the lookout for a separate email with all the details to include how to register for the weekend events.
Lastly, please share your time by joining the WVU Potomac State College Alumni Association (it’s free), serving on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, or by being a mentor to a current PSC student through the PSC Alumni Student Mentorship Program! Interact with, “like,” and share the WVU Potomac State College Facebook page.
I look forward to seeing and meeting you during Homecoming Weekend, scheduled from Friday, October 3 through Sunday, October 5. If you have ideas, questions, or concerns, please email me at psc-alumni@mail.wvu.edu.
