PSC Campus President Greeting!

Jerry Wallace

Greetings Alumni & Friends,

We concluded the spring 2026 semester celebrating another wonderful class of Catamounts! This year WVU Potomac State College increased enrollment, set a new Day of Giving fundraising record, launched new sports and improved our campus culture.

Our college is undergoing much needed renovations to our historic Science Hall building, and the new labs are currently on schedule for fall. The Church-McKee Arts Center auditorium updates and clock tower courtyard were excellent backdrops for families and visitors at the graduation ceremony.

As we prepare for the fall semester, please save the dates of October 1 – 4 for the WVU Potomac State College homecoming weekend!

Sincerely,

Let’s Go… Catamounts!

Hello Alumni & Friends!

I hope you are having a relaxing and happy summer! Let me catch you up on what’s happening with the WVU Potomac State Alumni Association.

In May, I had the pleasure of speaking to our most recent graduates at the 123rd Commencement Ceremony. The Commencement speaker was Admiral Joe Lopez, a legendary four-star Navy veteran, who returned to his beloved Alma Mater to share what WVU Potomac State College has meant to him, and how his time here helped him accomplish so much professionally and personally.

Levi Ferster was the 2026 PSC Outstanding Student, and he shared his favorite quote. “Time is the most valuable aspect in life.” He told his fellow graduates, “You cannot buy it, you cannot see it, and you certainly cannot slow it down. It feels like it was just a month ago that I was moving into college for the first time.” His words resonated with me, and I think they will for you, too. I am proud to have Levi in the Alumni family.

In addition, to Admiral Lopez and Levi, we also welcomed another special alumnus, Carl Smith. Carl is a man who believes in starting what he finishes. He watched his children, grandchildren, and even his wife go off to institutions of higher learning and earn degrees that propelled their lives forward. He felt regret. He never finished college. So, after 65 years, he earned his degree and, at the age of 83, was a member of the Class of 2026 graduates.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Mr. Smith and he said, “What going to Potomac State did for me — and I hope people understand this — is that it set me up for an entire lifetime of learning and loving to learn.” Read more about Carl here.

For many of us, our Potomac State College experience was more than just academic. It’s a place where faculty and staff members knew us by name. It’s a special place where we spent some of the most formative and fun years of our lives. I challenged the graduates to stay connected to WVU Potomac State College through the PSC Alumni Association and to give back to the place that they loved so much.

I’m sure you all remember your days at Potomac State College. Perhaps you met someone special on campus. Maybe you were a student athlete or involved in a student organization. Many of you likely landed your first real job after graduation or went on to complete your degree. No matter what, you remember what PSC did for you. Just like the bright-eyed Class of 2026, I challenge each of you to stay connected to your alma mater.

There are lots of ways to support WVU Potomac State College. One terrific way is to come back to campus during Homecoming Weekend, October 1-4, 2026. There are so many things to do while here that weekend:

  • Reconnect with fellow alumni at the All Alumni Reception on Friday night.
  • Stop by the Mary F. Shipper library on Saturday morning.
  • Head over to the fields for baseball, softball and soccer and enjoy the Catamount Cook-out on Saturday afternoon.
  • Attend the Alumni Awards and Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday evening to celebrate the best of the best.

The schedule is still being finalized so be sure to check the PSC website and social media for more details and updates.

Another opportunity to stay connected is to be on the Alumni Association Board of Directors. The board meets four times a year and provides valuable feedback and ideas to support alumni and WVU Potomac State College. You don’t have to live locally to participate. Attendance is both in-person and virtual. If you are interested in applying, please complete this brief online form .

Have you ever considered being an alumni mentor to a current WVU Potomac State College student? My mentee/student graduated in May, and it brought me so much joy to meet and connect with her on her higher education journey. Find out how you can be involved here.

Lastly, please consider donating to WVU Potomac State College so that more scholarship dollars are available for our current and future Catamounts. These donations also fund various programs that directly help students who choose to attend PSC.

Remember to follow the Alumni Association on our own dedicated Facebook page. We would love to hear from you!

I look forward to seeing and meeting more alumni at Homecoming this October. If you have ideas, questions, or concerns, please email me at psc-alumni@mail.wvu.edu
