Campus Security Measures

WVU Potomac State College received grant money to install exterior cameras and online locks in residence halls and academic buildings. The “where you live and where you learn” project will assist University Police (UP) in averting, responding to, and investigating crime.

The technological upgrades will not only help deter crime but will also provide UP with the tools to efficiently address crime when it does occur. The project will benefit WVU Potomac State College as cameras and online locks add two types of state-of-the-art and effective layers of safety for students and staff who live in campus housing.

The first grant funding is focused on residence halls. Exterior cameras have been installed in Memorial Hall and University Place. Online locks will be installed by the start of the fall term.

The second grant funding provides for exterior cameras and online locks to be installed in the following facilities:

  • Science Hall
  • Academy Hall
  • Administration Building
  • Church-McKee Arts Center (academic section)

The installation of the cameras and locks to these facilities will take place by fall 2025.

The total amount received for the project was $797,000 with $358,000 used for residence halls and $439,000 used for academic buildings.
