Olympic Gold Medalist Ginny Thrasher to Address WVU Potomac State College Graduates

Virginia “Ginny” Thrasher, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist in 10m women’s air rifle, and West Virginia University student, will provide the keynote address during West Virginia University Potomac State College’s 116th Commencement, Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m., in the Church-McKee Arts Center.

Thrasher will graduate next week with a biomedical engineering degree from West Virginia University.

In addition to her Olympic performance and athletic success internationally, she has proudly represented WVU at four National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships, where she has won two NCAA team titles and two NCAA individual titles.

Thrasher has also received many academic awards, including being named a two-time Academic All-American and a Rhodes Scholarship finalist. She loves talking about her athletic and academic experiences, such as in her TEDxWVU talk last March.

This summer, after competing in Beijing, Munich and Peru, she looks forward to moving to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. While living in Colorado, she will pursue her 2020 Olympics aspirations and apply to graduate school.
