75th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz Events to be held at WVU Potomac State College

West Virginia University Potomac State College recognizes the importance of marking historic anniversaries as part of our educational mission.  January 27, 2020 is the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp, Auschwitz.  The Memorial and Museum at Auschwitz-Birkenau will be commemorating this noteworthy milestone in a world-wide, free streaming of events from the former concentration and extermination camp grounds, featuring world leaders and, most vitally, 200 survivors of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

WVU will begin streaming the event across all three campuses on Monday, January 27, 2020, at 9:30 a.m., when the commemorations will begin.  We will continue streaming throughout the course of the day, ending at 5 p.m.

In Keyser, we will welcome anyone interested in watching the streaming service—as much or as little as guests have time for—in the Davis Conference Center on the Potomac State College campus.  As part of WVU’s support for the commemoration, information packets have been prepared for distribution to those who attend the streaming services.

It is critical in this time of increased anti-Semitic attacks and hostility, as well as other hate crimes, that the WVU community take this time to commemorate the millions of lives lost, as well as those remarkable few who survived and who continue to bear witness to the price of hate.

If you’re interested in streaming the event yourself, or in streaming at your local school or community center, information is available at: http://auschwitz.org/en/home-page75/.
