WVU Potomac State College plans to continue in-person and online instruction this spring

West Virginia University, in Morgantown, will offer additional in-person and hybrid classes during the spring 2021 semester, which will begin on January 19.

WVU Potomac State College, in Keyser, plans to continue to offer the majority of its classes using in-person and hybrid formats though offering more online classes than usual. The spring 2021 semester will closely mirror the class formats that were implemented for the fall 2020 semester. Potomac State’s semester will also begin Jan. 19, 2021.

The University will continually monitor the local public health situation and adjust as necessary. Health experts believe the environment relating to COVID-19 for the spring semester will generally be similar to the fall, as it is unlikely that a vaccine will be available to the general population in large quantities until later in 2021. In addition to the continued threat of COVID-19, the University is also considering the complications of flu season on the campus and local community. University health experts recommend that all faculty, staff and students receive a flu shot this fall.

Flu Shot Clinic Rescheduled
CVS Pharmacy had to reschedule the flu shot clinic. It will now be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., in the Student Health Center.

The vaccine will be provided at no cost to those presenting their valid health insurance card. For those without insurance, please bring a payment of $39.

All participants will be required to wear masks and complete a short health screening prior to admittance to the Student Health Center.

Please encourage your student to schedule an appointment now. Walk-ups are also welcome.

Additional Flu Shot Clinic Date Added
Another flu shot clinic will be held on Friday, November 6, in partnership with Walgreens Pharmacy, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the Student Health Clinic. Follow the same instructions as noted for CVS Pharmacy flu clinic. Encourage your student to make an appointment today. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Students will have the opportunity to review the schedule of courses beginning today, Oct. 20, within STAR. The University also has created a website to help students better understand the format of their classes, whether it be in-person, hybrid, hyflex, online - synchronous, online - asynchronous or low-residency courses.

Here are the dates when students will be able to register for WVU Potomac State College classes:

  • October 27 – Honors students, WV Promise students and student veterans
  • November 4 – Open Registration

The add and drop dates for the spring semester have been posted.

The University system will not have a spring break next semester but will include non-instructional days on Thursday, February 11 and Wednesday, March 3.

In addition, WVU Potomac State College will announce information related to residence hall move-out and move-in, return COVID-19 baseline testing and spring semester testing in the coming weeks.

Faculty will be permitted to be on campus after Thanksgiving to perform duties, but must record their time, the people they encountered and where they were on campus so that we can perform contact tracing if necessary.
