WVU urges students, employees across all campuses to be vigilant and follow COVID-19 safety guidelines amid increase in positive test results

West Virginia University, like many places across the state and nation, is seeing an increase in COVID-19 test results.

There were 48 positive results between Nov. 6-8 from 2,474 tests processed on the Morgantown campus. A total of 13 additional positive test results were self-reported during that time. The number of students in quarantine and isolation are also going up. Additionally, we continue to monitor positive test results on the campuses in Keyser and Beckley

There were four positive results between Nov. 6-8 from 127 tests processed on the Potomac State College campus. A total of six additional positive test results were self-reported during that time. The number of students in quarantine and isolation were also up at that time.

The last day of classes before the Thanksgiving holiday and the planned shift online to finish out the semester is Tuesday, Nov. 24 - just two weeks away.

As we enter flu season and prepare for the end of the fall semester, it’s important to continue following the guidelines:

  • Wear a mask when around people you don’t live with and when in public
  • Practice physical distancing
  • Avoid large gatherings
  • Wash your hands
  • Stay home if you’re feeling ill

The University recently updated its "close contact" definition to someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15-plus minutes over a 24-hour period.

COVID Response/Report and Incident Form is available to Potomac State College employees and students on the College’s website allowing for anonymous submissions of COVID protocol violations. Employees can also reach out to the Human Resources Partner Ashley Morgan at Ashley.morgan3@mail.wvu.edu as well as to EmployeeRelations@mail.wvu.edu

The University will continue to monitor the situation closely and share updates via social WVU Safety social media accounts.
