Jennifer Dietz, a business management (BAS) major from Ridgeley, has been presented with the Catamounts Climb Higher award at West Virginia University Potomac State College.

“Jennifer has consistently demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, excelling in every class with her thorough and conscientious work. Her ability to balance a full-time job and parenthood, while attending college full-time, is nothing short of remarkable,” said PSC Professor JoAnn Burnett. Adding, “Her dedication and resilience, especially as a single parent, are an inspiration to us all.”

Climb Higher recipients are recognized for their ability to bounce back despite encountering obstacles, for overcoming challenges, and for staying the course. Recipients are also recognized for their outstanding work ethic, kindness, and positive attitude. Although this award is not based on GPA, recipients must be in good academic standing.

Dietz, a non-traditional student, works full-time as an executive administrator at Sharing Life Ministries and as a property manager. She also served as co-executive for Unite on the Rock, a Christian Outreach event that took place at Allegany County Fairgrounds in September 2023.

“I was very excited to learn that I could earn a four-year degree at Potomac State. JoAnn Burnett, Amy Weaver and John Stone have all been key players in my success. Their willingness to work with my schedule allowed me to take all the classes I needed on time, and their continued support has truly been overwhelming,” Dietz said.

In addition to being awarded the John Philip Spoerl Scholarship by the PSC Alumni Association, Dietz was also the recipient of the Maier Completion Grant. She stated that without the help of generous donors, she would not have been able to complete her degree.

Jennifer's leadership and teamwork skills are evident in her interactions with peers and faculty alike. She is not only a natural leader but also a collaborative team player, always willing to lend her skills and knowledge for the betterment of the group.

“Jennifer's positive attitude and commitment to excellence have left a lasting impression. She embodies the values and spirit of this award, and her achievements are a testament to her hard work and determination,” Burnett said.
