SUMMER BREAK

WVU Potomac State College is out for summer, but the campus is still busy with camps, community events and upgrades. For this month op-ed, I asked PSC Athletic Director to highlight the amazing season our PSC softball team and coaches had this year.

The WVU Potomac State Softball team is no stranger to success and 2025 was certainly a season to remember. Potomac State has now won nine Region 20 Championships since 2015, with eight trips to the NJCAA Softball World Series. This year under first year Head Coach, Chris Greise, the Catamounts also saw PSC records broken in several categories. Their 39-6 season becomes the 3rd top season in school history. Their team batting average of .445 becomes the highest in program history and the “bomb squad” also crushed the former standing records of 507 hits and 89 homeruns by recording an impressive 528 hits and 107 homeruns. The team also had a .521 on base percentage and a .829 slugging percentage.  They finished the 2025 season ranked 1st in the NJCAA in Division II softball for batting average, on base percentage, and slugging percentage.

Jamie Kelly, Braylee Corbin, Lindsay Mowry, Skyla Compton, and Ashton Spiker led the bomb squad, all recording double digit home runs and a collective 338 RBIs. Kelly is now tied with Alexa Shoemaker ‘24 and Alexis Bailey ‘23 on the leaderboard for homeruns and RBIs. Eva Ochoa brought the speed on the bases, recording 49 stolen bases and helping the Catamounts to be ranked 2nd nationally in that statistical category.

Chloe Greise continued to dominate from the pitching circle, logging 32 wins this season on 39 appearances with a 1.39 ERA. She recorded 227 strikeouts this season, making her career total 437. She joins the record book with the likes of Stacey Walton, Abby Peace, Taylor Townsend, and Brianne Stocks, showcasing her contributions to the team.

After such a stellar season the team experienced individual recognition as well. Kelly, Greise, Corbin, Mowry, Lacie Miller, Compton, and Spiker were named the to NJCAA Region 20 Division II Softball All-Region Teams. Greise, Corbin, Mowry, Compton, Spiker and Kelly were named to the NFCA All-Region Team for the East, being six of the 75 students honored nationally. Sophomore Braylee Corbin and Freshman Skyla Compton were named NFCA All-Americans. Head Coach Chris Greise was named the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic District Coach of the Year for Division II.

MONDAY, MAY 12

On Monday immediately following graduation, I took an early morning drive (6:30am) two hours to Clarksburg, WV for the President Catamount Chat Tour. Liberty High School seniors were engaged, and we recognized a future Catamount, Danielle Marsh, who received the Climb Higher Scholarship. The PSC President Catamount Chat Tour will resume in the fall adding Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania stops as well.
