PSC Op-Ed with Dr. Jerry Wallace

Home of the Catamounts: HOCO 2025

I’m eager to share WVU Potomac State College enrollment has eclipsed 1,300 for fall 2025! Last fall, PSC enrollment reached 1,078, making this fall-to-fall comparison the largest growth since 2009-2010. Potomac State College offers a unique educational experience, while providing the only junior college athletics programs in West Virginia. The enrollment growth can be credited to the metro expansion tuition rate, expanding ACCESS and Level UP high school partnerships, special recruiting and retention efforts and the ability to transfer seamlessly from PSC to WVU Morgantown.

Often, I meet alums of both WVU Potomac State College and WVU Morgantown. Well, I’m personally inviting each of you back to PSC Homecoming 2025. Specifically, you’re invited to the Catamount Cookout to have a free meal and enjoy games on the quad. Bring your family and friends, I am eager to meet everyone and show you some of the amazing work being done at Potomac State College.

PSC employees volunteered to support Energy Express at the Mineral County Keyser site! I had the pleasure of reading “Van Gogh and the Sunflowers” 🌻 with the students and watching them plant their own sunflowers.

Senior VP & Chief Development Officer of WVU Foundation William Green was on campus to learn about PSC’s new initiatives and goals. We are eager to have Mr. Green join the WVU system and bring innovative strategies to how we approach development. Many of our students rely heavily on grants and scholarships to persist in college.

PSC alumni association meeting was held on Saturday with lots of fun updates. As you may have noticed, last month Sabrina Cave, President of the PSC Alumni Association, provided the op-ed. “Catamount Chapters,” a short documentary sponsored by the PSC Alumni Association, will be showcased throughout homecoming weekend, featuring many familiar faces.

WVU President Benson continues to improve the connections with WVU regional campuses. Mr. Hauser will be the guest speaker during the upcoming PSC Retiree Social during homecoming.

I walk on campus in the evenings and I’m happy to brag about this project. The Wildlife Habitat Flower Garden was a collaborative effort between students and faculty.  This garden has blossomed into one of my favorite locations on campus. Thank you for the extra efforts to add beautification at PSC!

Very few can match my energy, but Mineral County Superintendent of Schools Troy Ravenscroft is one of those people. WVU Potomac State College is thrilled about the future of our partnerships and what we can do for K-12 pathways to college and the workforce.

Lunch on the Quad was energizing as PSC employees gathered over a wonderful meal to kick off the year. We even had a special visit from Provost Paul Kreider traveling from WVU Morgantown to join us with “Lady”. We snapped a great photo with “Ace the Prez Pup” and newly cemented “Lady the Provost Pup”.

Welcome Catamounts! Have questions? Ask here! My executive assistant Krista Campbell led the charge in creating and prepping PSC welcome tables all across campus. The first day of class was supported by PSC employees and student volunteers giving directions, goodies and important information inside and outside of buildings.
