Keyser, WV –
West Virginia University
President Michael T. Benson
made Mineral County — the home of
WVU Potomac State College
— the 30th official county he’s visited as part of his inaugural “Welcome Home
Tour” across the Mountain State.
President Benson was joined by WVU PSC President Jerry Wallace, WVU Health System officials, local legislators, community leaders, and other supporters on Oct. 17.
President Benson was feted at a luncheon in the PSC University Place Heritage Room, where he met with PSC leadership, community leaders, and elected officials. Elected officials included Delegates Gary Howell, Rick Hillenbrand and Lt. Gov. and Senate President Randy Smith. The College also welcomed K-12 partners at Mineral County Schools Troy Ravenscroft and Matthew Ravenscroft. Mark Boucot, the CEO of Potomac Valley Hospital also joined the event.
During a campus walking tour, President Benson witnessed the need for renovating the College’s Science Hall, observed the in-process improvements to Church McKee and its new Clock Tower, and visited with PSC student athletes where he competed in a spirited free throw competition.
He also visited WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser as part of his day-long tour.
NOTES: After he visited Mineral County, President Benson has officially traveled to 30 West Virginia counties in the 13 weeks since he became the University’s 27th president. His goal is to get to all 55 counties by next summer.
