Traditional BSN Program
The application window for the traditional BSN program runs from November 1, 2025, through January 15, 2026. Acceptance into the program is competitive, and spaces are limited to 24 students each fall. Pre-BSN, pre-nursing, and other college major students may apply for admission to the traditional BSN program after one semester of college coursework. To qualify for the program, applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on all college coursework completed, have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on the required prerequisite coursework, and complete the required prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better; interested applicants should visit https://academics.potomacstatecollege.edu/majors/four-year-programs/nursing-bsn for more information, including a list of the required prerequisite courses, and to submit an application.
LPN- to-BSN Program
The LPN to BSN pathway provides a seamless pathway for a current LPN to earn a baccalaureate degree to enter the registered nursing profession in less than three years. The application window for the LPN to BSN pathway runs from November 1, 2025, through July 1, 2026, following a rolling admissions (first-come, first-served) process; interested applicants are encouraged to apply early, as it is expected that the 16 available seats will fill quickly. To qualify for the program, applicants must have completed a board-approved, accredited practical nursing program; hold an active, unencumbered LPN license; have taken the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam and earned a total score of at least 60%; and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on all college-level work attempted, if applicable. Students admitted to the LPN-to-BSN program will learn via a hybrid format, with classroom work completed online and lab/clinical work completed face-to-face. For more information, interested applicants should visit https://academics.potomacstatecollege.edu/majors/four-year-programs/nursing-lpn-to-bsn.
All BSN students (traditional and LPN-to-BSN) are expected to meet other criteria, including successfully passing a background check, urine drug screening, and physical exam/ immunizations review by their healthcare provider. Admitted students must complete Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) trainings; purchase program-approved nursing uniforms and shoes for clinical rotations; have a laptop with webcam, microphone, and privacy screen/filter; and maintain health insurance. Additionally, all students admitted to the traditional BSN program must maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.0 throughout the program, and all students admitted to the LPN-to-BSN program must maintain a nursing GPA of at least 3.0 throughout the program.
All students in the BSN programs learn in smart classrooms. They build their confidence and apply clinical judgment skills in state-of-the-science skills and simulation labs. And they gain hands-on experience in many clinical facilities, including hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and community agencies. In addition to completing community service hours throughout the duration of the nursing program, and in keeping with the University's commitment to improving health care for all West Virginians, all students in the BSN programs complete a rural capstone experience during their senior year.
