West Virginia University Potomac State College invites local organizations, agencies, and community leaders to join an upcoming conversation with Potomac State College in a collaborative discussion focused on building stronger connections between the campus and the surrounding community.
The event, titled “CommUNITY Connection: A Campus-Community Conversation,” will take place Dec. 12, from 2-4 p.m. at the Mineral County Extension Office Assembly Hall, 541 Harley O. Staggers Drive, Keyser.
This session offers an open forum to explore shared goals, identify community needs, and discover ways that local organizations can partner with the College to advance workforce development, service learning, and regional engagement. Attendees will also learn about WVU’s volunteer management system and other resources available to support local initiatives.
“Potomac State College is deeply committed to serving the people and communities of our region,” said Megan Webb, Director of Development. “This conversation is an opportunity to listen, collaborate, and identify how our campus can best contribute to local success stories.”
Community organizations, agencies, businesses, and individuals interested in connecting are encouraged to participate.

This initiative is part of WVU’s broader commitment to strengthening local communities through meaningful engagement. The overarching mission is to bring together WVU Potomac State College faculty, students, and local community organizations to address shared needs, create learning opportunities, and build a stronger region.
This effort aligns with the land-grant mission of WVU – using teaching, service, and scholarship to support the public good. The WVU Center for Community Engagement (CCE) helps to deepen these connections across all WVU campuses, and this program looks to intentionally extend and enrich this work in the Keyser area.

The hope is to:
* Build strong, sustainable partnerships with local nonprofits, schools, agencies, and community groups.
* Identify areas of shared interest where faculty expertise and student learning can support community needs.
* Increase access to engagement opportunities, from volunteering to service-learning to applied research.
* Make the campus a welcoming and accessible partner for organizations throughout the region.
* Support long-term community-engaged teaching and learning, positioning PSC as an anchor institution within the community.
This effort is structured in phases – community partner engagement, faculty engagement, and student engagement – to ensure that partnerships are built thoughtfully and collaboratively. The goal is shared success, with students who thrive through experiential learning, faculty who are supported in community-engaged teaching and research, and local partners whose work is amplified through reliable and reciprocal university partnerships.
