Wrestling is Coming
WVU Potomac State College is delighted to announce the addition of men’s wrestling in Fall 2026. PSC wrestling will be the 15th sport on our campus, so come cheer on the Catamounts! The month of January is always filled with resolutions and new faces on campus. We pride ourselves on providing an environment welcoming to all learners seeking higher education.
A group of PSC leaders traveled to Charleston this past month for Mineral County Days and to advocate for upcoming projects. When traveling to the capital, I’m always amazed by the Potomac State College connections serving in both the House and Senate of West Virginia. As our mission statement reads…PSC is committed to providing access to a better life for all West Virginians, so start your journey now!
Updates
Jan. 8 – I, along with Dean Douthitt, attended the welcome reception for new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Beverly Wendland. She brings a wealth of knowledge, previously serving as provost at Washington University in St. Louis and Dean of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Wendland will be a wonderful addition to the WVU system. I made sure to present Dr. Wendland with the best WVU Potomac State College swag so she remembers the Catamounts when she starts in July.

Jan. 12 - Have you purchased the PSC 125th Birthday Commemorative Poster?
All purchasers were placed into a raffle for a mini photo shoot on campus. My son Maxwell helped pick our winner: PSC alum Ronna Mathias! Follow PSC Alumni Association for chances to win.
Jan. 14 – Mineral County Day: Day 1 of Mineral County Days at the capital in Charleston, WV, had meetings and great information sharing. Mineral County was represented well for both days, and our group received lots of compliments throughout the visits.
Jan. 15 – Mineral County Day: Day 2 of Mineral County Days in Charleston. Over 60 attendees traveled to the capital to meet with delegates and senators. WVU Potomac State College filled the tables with smiling faces, fun activities, PSC swag items, and access to education.

Jan. 26 – 28 – The snow and cold temperatures collided for a few closures, delays and time inside during the week.
I was happy our dedicated facilities management team was able to get to campus and prep for the return of students and employees from the closures.
Jan. 27 – Congratulations to all the stellar Catamount students who were recognized on the Fall 2025 President’s List and Dean’s List. To be eligible for the President’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least 12-credit hours of graded courses, excluding courses in which any grade of Audit, Pass or Incomplete is recorded, and must earn a grade-point average of 3.700 or higher for the semester. Eligibility for the Dean’s List is the same except the GPA is 3.0-3.699.
Feb. 3 – I traveled back to Charleston this week to support WVU Day at the Capital. The festivities started with an evening social hosted by West Viriginia University and Marshall University…Universities United! Below are pictures with WVU President Benson and Marshall President Smith.
Feb. 3 - In Charleston, Garret Oursler introduced himself as a friend of mine on LinkedIn. I was impressed by his professional and engaging conversation.
We look forward to connecting and having him on the PSC campus. Dean Jorge and WVU Extension provide amazing student experiences, producing stellar students like Garrett statewide.
