WVU Potomac State College is proud to announce the nomination of two alumni into the Catamounts Athletics Hall of Fame, in recognition of their exceptional contributions to athletics and sportsmanship.
Amber Wesley and Reggie Baker will be officially inducted during the College's Homecoming ceremonies, October 1- 4.
Amber Wesley
Amber Wesley's breakout campaign at PSC came during the 2011 volleyball season when she earned NJCAA Region 20 Division II First Team honors and was recognized on the national stage as an NJCAA Division II Volleyball All-American Honorable Mention. She led the Catamounts' offense with 308 kills, averaging an impressive 3.9 kills per set while adding 47 service aces, 79 digs, and 19 total blocks. Her all-around play resulted in 374 total points, averaging 4.73 points per set, making her one of the most dynamic offensive threats in the region.
She followed that performance with another exceptional season in 2012, earning NJCAA Region 20 Division II Second Team honors. Wesley recorded a career-high 344 kills while averaging 3.14 kills per set, adding 76 digs, 29 total blocks, and 14 service aces. She once again paced the Catamounts offensively, finishing the season with 376.5 total points and averaging 3.5 points per set.
Wesley finished with 750.5 career points, the highest total in Potomac State volleyball history, while ranking second all-time with 652 career kills and fourth in program history with 3.5 career kills per game.
“By the conclusion of her school career, Wesley had cemented her legacy among the greatest players to ever represent the Catamounts,” said PSC Athletic Director Mandi Larkin. “Her impact on the program, both statistically and competitively, has secured her place among the all-time greats in Potomac State Athletics history.”
Reggie Baker
Reggie Baker arrived in Keyser for the 2012-13 season and immediately established himself as one of the premier scorers in the NJCAA. As a freshman, Baker appeared in 19 games and averaged 18.6 points per game, making an immediate impact on the Catamounts' offense. He opened his collegiate career with a 32-point performance against the College of Southern Maryland before matching that total later in the season against Prince George's Community College. Baker reached the 20-point mark ten times during his freshman campaign.
Baker elevated his game even further during the 2013-14 season, helping lead the Catamounts to one of the greatest years in school history. Potomac State captured its first NJCAA Region 20 Championship before advancing to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, where the Catamounts earned the program's first-ever national tournament victory. For his outstanding postseason performance, Baker was named the NJCAA Region 20 Tournament Most Valuable Player while also earning NJCAA Region 20 First Team honors.
Baker averaged 24.3 points per game, ranking ninth nationally in NJCAA Division II scoring. He scored in double figures in 28 of 29 contests, highlighted by two remarkable 47-point performances. Nationally, he ranked 14th in field goals made (238), 17th in free throws made (170), 37th in free throw percentage (81.7%), 57th in three-pointers made (58), and 95th in steals (48). He also shot 47.4 percent from the field and averaged 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, establishing himself as one of the nation's most complete offensive players.
Following his historic career at Potomac State, Baker transferred to NCAA Division II Newman University for the 2014-15 season. He wasted little time making his presence felt, averaging 21.0 points per game while earning Heartland Conference Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-Heartland Conference, and Daktronics All-South Central Second Team honors. Baker scored 30 or more points five times, including a career-high 36-point performance, earned Heartland Conference Player of the Week honors on three occasions, and set a school record with 17 rebounds in a game against Dallas Baptist University.
Baker concluded his collegiate career at NCAA Division I Bethune-Cookman University during the 2016-17 season. Starting 27 of 32 games, he averaged 13.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while totaling 431 points, helping the Wildcats compete at the Division I level and proving himself against the highest level of collegiate competition.
After college, Baker turned his talents to the professional ranks, where he has built an impressive international career. Entering his 10th professional season, he has competed in 11 countries across Europe, Central America, South America, and the Middle East, including Portugal, Georgia, El Salvador, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Iraq, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Syria. Away from competition, Baker has remained committed to giving back to the game through his basketball training program, Reb Elite Training, where he mentors and develops the next generation of athletes.
“His sophomore season was among the finest ever by a Catamount,” Larkin said. “From leading the Catamounts to a Region 20 Championship and the program's first NJCAA National Tournament victory to building an impressive professional career across the globe, Baker's impact on Potomac State Athletics continues to serve as a source of pride for the Catamount community.”
