In the coming weeks, PSC will host the 2026 Homecoming, and this year we have several celebrations, recognitions, and fun activities you don’t want to miss. Each day of Homecoming Weekend offers a chance to reconnect with memories from your time at Potomac State College.
Homecoming officially kicks off Thursday, October 1, with our Business After Hours, co-hosted with the Mineral County Chamber of Commerce. Businesses looking to connect with PSC students and learn about our new Learn & Earn paid internships should RSVP for a table.
On Saturday, our Catamount Cookout is 11 am–2 pm, with food provided by Hoover’s BBQ. I look forward to meeting PSC alumni, families, and community members, and watching PSC athletic competitions. We are also eager to host WVU President Michael Benson and Provost Beverly Wendland as they participate in the Field Dedication for “Doug Little Field” and the PSC Softball Scoreboard Recognition.
Highlights
August 20 - Freshman Kaleyah Rushing, originally from Baltimore, MD, stopped by my office to pick up her new laptop. All attendees at Potomac State College Student Orientation were entered into a raffle to win. This raffle was sponsored by the PSC Enrollment Management Team.

August 25 – I surprised students with a President Pop-Up at our Catamount Café. I put out a video message on social media inviting students to free coffee at our café that serves Starbucks. Ace the Prez Pup accompanied me to greet students, so he could get rubs from students as well! All PSC faculty, staff and students that stopped by were treated to a free drink from the café.

August 27 – While walking on campus, I noticed students standing in line near the Quad. PSC Student Services team was serving sno-cones! The sno-cones were perfect on such a hot day. Special thanks to the WVU Potomac State College Student Services team for providing this wonderful treat. I took a selfie with my blue raspberry flavor twin!
August 31 - I attended the 6th Annual Jane Gates Day celebration in Cumberland, Maryland. The Jane Gates Heritage House still stands dating back to the 1800’s. Jane’s story from enslavement to freedom and purchasing this home is remarkable. The Gates family is also part of the Potomac State College family. Most recently, PSC published a story about Dr. Gates.
August 31 – PSC students are eligible for paid on-the-job experience that earns them college credits! I met with a community staple, Wayne’s Meats, to discuss the West Virginia Learn & Earn program. PSC will be hosting a business after-hours event on October 1 to kick off Homecoming Weekend and share more Learn & Earn information.

September 2 – The Wallace family posed for photos as we took the first rides in the newly donated antique horse-drawn carriages. This year during Homecoming, for the first time, attendees will be able to take horse-drawn carriage ride tours of the campus property.

September 3 – In collaboration with PSC Residence Life, I hosted a Pizza with the Prez activity outside of Church-McKee. The local Pan Jammin’ Steel Drum group performed immediately following the event, so students enjoyed food and entertainment. I even had a special visit from the PSC softball team!
September 6 & 7 – Four determined volunteers dedicated the Labor Day Weekend to refreshing the yellow paint around campus. The Quad and parking lots look much better and we are excited about adding fresh paint!
September 8 – WVU Potomac State College men’s basketball coach Brady Folk stopped by my office to gift me their latest gear for the season. We have an amazing recruiting class of young student-athletes playing for Coach Folk this year. Let’s go Cats!

September 9 - I joined the PSC men’s soccer team to volunteer unloading donations. Potomac State College Athletics teams support Faith in Action Food Pantry every month with the unloading of donations. I was also able to interview some PSC student-athletes and Faith in Action leaders about giving back to the community.

September 12 - WVU Potomac State hosted their 2nd Annual Catamount Classic Cross Country Meet at Frankfort Middle School. Potomac State and Mineral County Schools have an established memorandum of understanding allowing mutual use of athletic facilities for the benefit of student-athletes participating in school-sponsored sports. The women's team had a clean sweep, with a perfect score, and the men earned first place as a team as well. The Catamounts will host the NJCAA Region 20 Cross Country Championship on October 31, 2026.

September 14 - WVU President Benson’s State of the University address featured Provost Beverly Wendland and repeatedly highlighted the great potential of our University and state. WVU Potomac State College is positioned to be a higher education leader as a hybrid 4-year institution that provides both associate and bachelor’s degrees. Let's Go!
