Earlier this afternoon you received a letter from WVU President Gordon Gee announcing an update to the Morgantown campus’ plans regarding students returning for the fall semester. It is important to note, however, that these updates are specific to the Morgantown campus and do not apply to either the Potomac State College campus or the WVU Tech campus in Beckley, W.Va.
Scott McVicker has been named executive director of finance and operations at West Virginia University Potomac State College, replacing Carol Combs who is set to retire after serving the College for 19 years.
WVU-PSC’s faculty and staff are busy planning for fall and are eager to welcome students
back to campus. We know that robust programming and activities complement academics
to round out the student experience. Because we recognize the importance of student
life, I would like to share additional information as a follow-up to our initial
Student Life Return to Campus message of June 23.
As we prepare for the fall, we know there will be times we will ask for your patience
and flexibility. The circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic are fluid
and ever-changing. Our planning process has been, and will continue to be, dynamic.
We have adapted activities and programs with guidance and insights from our University,
local and state public health experts.
Keyser, W.Va. – Following the recommendations from the NJCAA Presidential Advisory Council
and the NJCAA Board of Regents, the NJCAA has announced its adjusted plan of
action for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year. Following the Board of Regents'
vote on Monday, a majority of competition will be moved to the spring semester.
The most recent plan of action shifts all close-contact fall sports to the spring
semester. These sports include men's and women's soccer, and volleyball.
WVU Potomac State College will offer a new exercise physiology major this fall. After earning their two- and four-year degrees, students will have the option to pursue a career in the field or apply to physical therapy and physician assistant programs or medical, dentistry, pharmacy, and other professional schools.
We are looking forward to safely welcoming our West Virginia University family
to campus for the fall semester. During this unprecedented time, we must think
differently and take specific health and safety measures to protect our University
community.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Anticipating a slightly smaller enrollment and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the West Virginia UniversityBoard of Governors on Friday approved a budget for the coming fiscal year more than $23 million less than the previous year.
“As we discuss the budget for fiscal year 2021, we are facing some uncertain times as we plan for a return to campus in the fall under very different conditions,” said Paula Congelio, vice president for finance and chief financial officer. “This year will be one of transition and flexibility as we go through the year and learn how to cope and live and learn with the COVID virus.”
West Virginia University will undertake an internal review of its systems and policies, with a goal to begin implementing some recommendations by mid-August, President Gordon Gee said Friday as both he and Board of Governors President David Alvarez addressed ongoing racial unrest in the country.
“I want to acknowledge that the Board of Governors has received and read the petition that was sent to us this week regarding racism and racial inequities on our campuses,” Alvarez said as he opened the regular meeting of the Board Friday.
