Larry Kruk Named Coach of the Year
For WVU Potomac State College women's basketball coach Larry Kruk, coaching is a “team effort.”
“Everything we do is always about the team, the other coaches, and the entire women’s basketball program,” he said. “We function as a team, and we accomplish things as a team.”
Kruk was recently named the NJCAA Region 20 Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2025–26 season, highlighting a historic year for the Catamounts program.
“In his seventh season at the helm, Kruk guided Potomac State to one of its most successful campaigns in recent memory,” said Potomac State College athletic director, Mandi Larkin. “The Catamounts finished as the NJCAA Region 20 runner-up while surpassing the 20-win mark for the first time under Kruk’s leadership.”
The 2025–26 season also etched its place in the program record books, as Potomac State recorded its highest win total since the 2010–11 season.
Potomac State Athletic Trainer Named Best in the Nation
The best athletic trainer in the nation works at WVU Potomac State College. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) honored Carita Mills as the 2026 National Athletic Trainer of the Year during its national conference in Kansas City.
“Everyone who has met or worked with Carita understands the dedication she brings to our student-athletes each and every day,” said PSC Athletic Director Mandi Larkin. “This award simply confirms what we have long known—that she is among the very best in the profession and truly deserving of national recognition. She approaches her work with a consistent student-athlete focus, doing everything in her power to help all of us improve day by day. We are fortunate to have her on our staff at WVU Potomac State and are thrilled to see her honored by the NJCAA as National Athletic Trainer of the Year.”
Baseball Player and Family Arrange Donation of New Vehicle
It’s not unusual for a student to receive a vehicle when he or she starts college. For generations, handing over the keys for reliable transportation has been a time-honored tradition. At WVU Potomac State College on Sunday, April 26, that tradition was set in reverse, however, when a student and his family helped to facilitate a reliable mode of transportation to his school.
PSC men’s baseball sophomore, Ryan Conrad, and his parents, along with the entire 2026 and 2027 Baseball Teams, surprised the coaching staff just before the game by gifting the athletic department with a new Kawasaki Mule SX 4x4 XC vehicle.
How to Donate to PSC Athletics
WVU Potomac State College's 14 athletic programs have a general athletic fund through the WVU Foundation, designed to assist all sports equally, as well as individual fundraising campaigns that run throughout the year. Donations make a difference in the experiences provided to our student-athletes and coaches. Our teams rely on these donations for equipment purchases, team travel, ever-increasing recruiting costs, and other operational expenses.
Your support ensures that the proud tradition of Potomac State Athletics will continue well into the future for each program. If you have a passion for a specific team at Potomac State, please consider making a direct impact on that program.
