We are thrilled to announce that the 2026 Day of Giving, held on Wednesday, March 25, was the most successful in WVU Potomac State College history! Together, we raised $296,261 to support the students and campus programs.

The participation goal of 125 was absolutely by receiving a total of 128 gifts. Because of your overwhelming support, we unlocked $7,100 in bonus funds for our participation and fundraising success.

Thank you for investing in the future of WVU Potomac State College. Listen to our Catamount voices of gratitude.

Catherine Parish Memorial Nursing Scholarship Update

Catherine Parish

An endowment used to assist nursing students at Potomac State College has now been made permanent. Keyser and Mineral County nursing students will be given the first priority.

For years, WVU Potomac State College alumnus, Gary Parish, was hoping to create a perpetually endowed scholarship, the Catherine Parish Memorial Nursing Scholarship, in memory of his late wife, Cathy. His hope is now a reality, ensuring that students enrolled in the nursing program here will receive educational assistance for years to come.

“The intent was always to make it permanent. That was always the goal, so I am happy that this is happening. I want the scholarship to address a need,” Parish said. “In case someone wants to enroll in nursing and is struggling at some point, I want the scholarship to be able to help someone reach their goals.”

The James and Anita H. Mahood Scholarship was established in late March 2026.

“Giving back to a student means a great deal to me, because I once benefited from that same kind of support,” Jim Mahood said. “I’m delighted to help students from my home county of Mineral County pursue their education and their future.”

Kenneth F. Haines Clock Tower & Plaza Dedication

Kenneth Haines

A clock tower on the campus of WVU Potomac State College has long served as a symbol of tradition and academic pride. Perched atop a building that once housed classrooms, offices, a library, and a gymnasium, the original tower reflected Potomac State College’s enduring legacy since its founding in 1901 and its integration with West Virginia University in 2005.

Now, thanks to a generous gift from the late Kenneth Haines, a new modern clock tower chimes again. This time, the tower stands by itself just outside the newly renovated Church-McKee Arts Center in a dedicated plaza, adorned with benches and a guiding compass artfully crafted into the setting. The tower acts as a proud timekeeping sentinel and can be spotted from nearly every angle of campus from its position off Arnold Street.
