Students return this fall to a different campus

West Virginia University Potomac State College kicked off its 118th fall semester with its first day of classes Wednesday, Aug. 19. However, unlike any other fall semester in the College’s history, faculty, staff and students are navigating the global COVID-19 pandemic. The campus community is dealing with a different environment including mitigating classroom, dining and study area capacities; rerouting foot traffic in buildings and implementing new protocols such as wearing masks – both inside and outside – and physically distancing, among other precautionary measures.

Alumni Homecoming Banquet rescheduled to Weekend of Honors, spring 2021

Due to the pandemic, the Alumni Homecoming Banquet will be held spring 2021 during Honors Weekend, April 24 and 25. More information will be announced in upcoming Alumni Updates.

During this event, the College will honor Alumnus Ken Ward Jr., for his 2020 Scholars Wall induction. The ceremony was canceled spring 2020 due to the pandemic. The Alumni Association will also recognize the recipients of the Young Alumni Achievement Award, the Lifetime Alumni Achievement Award and the Outstanding Service Award, all honors that would have been recognized during the fall 2020 homecoming banquet. At the same time, the College will celebrate the induction of the 2021 Alumni Scholars Wall Honoree.

PSC Alumna Kista Crites helps mask the Catamount mascot

Kista Crites in the WVU Potomac State College Catamount mascot suit

Kista Crites, a recent graduate of the College, was an active and engaged student while on campus. Now as an alumna, she’s still helping out and stepping up by branding and customizing an extra, extra, extra-large mask with WVU logo and colors for PAWS. The College is conducting a “maskot” campaign asking faculty, staff and students to share who they wear their masks for during the COVID-19 pandemic. PAWS wears a mask to keep the entire campus community safe. Michele Labar is the seamstress who created the mask for PAWS.
