Dear Alumni,
I hope you all are having a wonderful summer. In May I had the honor of participating
in Commencement for the Class of 2023 and welcoming our graduating alumni.
While we are so very proud of our graduates, I think it is important to mention
that graduation is not a requirement to be an alumnus. Our Catamount alumni
comprise a much larger group than just those who graduated.
To become an alumnus, a student only needs to successfully complete one semester.
Many alumni attended but did not graduate, changed campuses to the WVU Morgantown
campus, or transferred to other colleges to complete their education. Perhaps
you know someone like that. Please let them know, we are proud to call them
alumni. Remember, once a Catamount, always a Catamount. Being a member of our
Catamount family comes with an overwhelming sense of pride for our beloved
alma mater.
That sense of pride also extends to all our alumni. In September, we will hold
the Alumni Awards Banquet during homecoming. During this time, the alumni come
together once again to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate our alumni's
extraordinary accomplishments. The Alumni Achievement Award, Young Alumni Award,
and Distinguished Service Award are presented to deserving individuals at the
banquet. These awards serve as a reminder of the impact WVU Potomac State College
had on all of us and as a goal for the next generation of alumni.
Nominations for these awards are open. More information about all these awards,
criteria for eligibility, and nomination processes are available on the
Alumni and Friends webpage
.
The Alumni Association is also passionate about supporting the aspirations of
our future alumni. Three scholarships are now awarded each semester to deserving
students. All scholarships are set up to continue awarding scholarships in
perpetuity. Thanks to all your generous contributions, we have been able to
grow our most recent scholarship, the Potomac State College Alumni Association
Scholarship, which reached endowment status last October.
Also, two other endowment funds are maintained to support various programs throughout
the year for both students and alumni. If you would like to help support programs
and/or scholarships, please contact
psc-alumni@mail.wvu.edu
for more information.
I invite you to make plans now to come along with us for the exciting times ahead
as summer turns into autumn. Consider attending homecoming, nominating someone
for an award, volunteering to serve on the Board or committee, or even returning
to campus this fall as a student. Please “like,” “follow,” and “share”

Let’s Go Catamounts!
