Former Keyser resident, George K. Oss and his wife, Joann, recently made an additional
donation to the Dulin Memorial Scholarship, which was endowed in 2016, with the
West Virginia University Potomac State College Foundation. The scholarship was
created in memory of his late grandmother, Cora A. Dulin, who raised George and
his sister after their mother passed away.
Eligibility for the Dulin Memorial Scholarship is based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and financial need. Recipients must also be graduates of Frankfort High School or Keyser High School.
“My grandmother wanted me to get a good education. With the help of a scholarship from Potomac State College, I was able to fulfill her wish for me. Creating an endowed scholarship in my grandmother’s name is a way of ‘paying it forward’ for others who are seeking a good education. I believe she would be pleased,” George said.
From his youth, George was fascinated with airplanes and the concept of flight. After reading about the accomplishments of fellow West Virginian Chuck Yeager, he was convinced that a career associated with aircraft and the field of aerodynamics was for him.
George graduated from Potomac State College in 1955. He earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering in 1958 at WVU Morgantown, then continued his graduate studies in engineering management at George Washington University.
He has more than 30 years of experience in engineering and management, most of which was in the field of rocket propulsion. He worked for Allegany Ballistics Laboratory prior to accepting a position at Atlantic Research Corporation, where he spent 26 years serving as vice-president and general manager of the Teleproducts Division. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as president and CEO with Versar Laboratories, Inc.
George was honored by the Aerospace Engineering Department of WVU in 1990 when he was selected as a Charter Member of the Academy of Distinguished Alumni. In 1991, he was inducted into Keyser High School’s Legion of Honor and served as a member of the advisory committee for the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at WVU Morgantown.
Other accolades include George being recognized by Potomac State College in 2000 with the Alumni Achievement Award, and again in 2009 with the with the inscription of his name on the Duke Anthony Whitmore/Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Academic Achievement Wall.
