The announcement released earlier this morning from the Morgantown campus regarding
the move of courses to online delivery does not impact the Keyser campus. WVU Potomac
State courses and operations will continue as scheduled on Tuesday, September 8.
Students, faculty and staff are reminded to complete the daily wellness survey.
The Apprenticeship Pathway Degree Program at WVU will complement the well-established technical training participants receive during their apprenticeship training programs.
West Virginia University Potomac State College kicked off its 118th fall semester
with its first day of classes Wednesday, Aug. 19. However, unlike any other fall
semester in the College’s history, faculty, staff and students are navigating the
global COVID-19 pandemic. The campus community is dealing with a different environment
including mitigating classroom, dining and study area capacities; rerouting foot
traffic in buildings and implementing new protocols such as wearing masks – both
inside and outside – and physically distancing, among other precautionary measures.
“It is wonderful to see students, faculty and staff on campus again. It is the people
who make the campus so vibrant and exciting and we want to be able to stay on campus,”
President Jennifer Orlikoff said. “To do this, we have implemented many measures
and protocols for this fall that are intended to keep everyone as safe as possible.”
As we approach the beginning of classes this fall, we want to provide you with the
following additional information and reminders. If you have additional questions,
visit the Return to Campus website or send your questions to
returntocampus@mail.wvu.edu.
The COVID-19 pandemic is always evolving. Policies, procedures and information are
likely to change as we go through the fall. For that reason, it is important you
know the latest information. This is part of your personal responsibility for your
safety.
As we approach the beginning of classes this fall, please note the information below
that has been updated since Morgantown’s announcement on July 27. If you have additional
questions, visit the Return to Campus website or send your questions to
returntocampus@mail.wvu.edu.
Additionally, a Return to Campus Conversation will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday,
Aug. 6 where senior WVU administrators will continue to answer questions and address
concerns. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work together toward a
successful return.
Earlier this afternoon you received a letter from WVU President Gordon Gee announcing an update to the Morgantown campus’ plans regarding students returning for the fall semester. It is important to note, however, that these updates are specific to the Morgantown campus and do not apply to either the Potomac State College campus or the WVU Tech campus in Beckley, W.Va.
Scott McVicker has been named executive director of finance and operations at West Virginia University Potomac State College, replacing Carol Combs who is set to retire after serving the College for 19 years.
WVU-PSC’s faculty and staff are busy planning for fall and are eager to welcome students
back to campus. We know that robust programming and activities complement academics
to round out the student experience. Because we recognize the importance of student
life, I would like to share additional information as a follow-up to our initial
Student Life Return to Campus message of June 23.
As we prepare for the fall, we know there will be times we will ask for your patience
and flexibility. The circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic are fluid
and ever-changing. Our planning process has been, and will continue to be, dynamic.
We have adapted activities and programs with guidance and insights from our University,
local and state public health experts.
