WVU Board OKs reduced budget for coming fiscal year

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Anticipating a slightly smaller enrollment and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the West Virginia University Board of Governors on Friday approved a budget for the coming fiscal year more than $23 million less than the previous year. 

“As we discuss the budget for fiscal year 2021, we are facing some uncertain times as we plan for a return to campus in the fall under very different conditions,” said Paula Congelio, vice president for finance and chief financial officer. “This year will be one of transition and flexibility as we go through the year and learn how to cope and live and learn with the COVID virus.”

Gee announces first steps in WVU’s efforts to address campus racial shortcomings

West Virginia University will undertake an internal review of its systems and policies, with a goal to begin implementing some recommendations by mid-August, President Gordon Gee said Friday as both he and Board of Governors President David Alvarez addressed ongoing racial unrest in the country.

“I want to acknowledge that the Board of Governors has received and read the petition that was sent to us this week regarding racism and racial inequities on our campuses,” Alvarez said as he opened the regular meeting of the Board Friday.

WVU Potomac State College Reinvents Equine Management Major for Fall 2020

WVU Potomac State College has reinvented its Equine Management major so that students can pursue more entrepreneurial endeavors and small business enterprises as part of the Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship (SAGE) program. Potomac State graduate, Madison Sites presented with awards

West Virginia University Potomac State College held its 80th Recognition Day Awards ceremony and Scholars’ Wall event earlier this spring.  During this time, Madison Sites, a biology major from Sugar Grove, W.Va., received several awards, one of which was the Keyser Rotary Club’s “Service Above Self” award.
