News for WVU Potomac State College

West Virginia University Potomac State College honored many of their students, faculty and staff with awards and recognition earlier this spring. Students Averi Smith, Madison Taylor, and Hunter Turner had their names inscribed on the Duke Anthony Whitmore/Henry Louis Gates, Jr Academic Achievement Wall, also referred to as The Scholars’ Wall.

The Scholars’ Wall was conceived as a way of recognizing the academic and scholarly achievements of Potomac State College students, alumni, and faculty. Each year a faculty committee selects students who exhibit exemplary scholarship and the potential for continued achievement. 

Keith Leo Johnson, Jr., Ph.D., was posthumously named the 2024 WVU Potomac State College Professor of the Year. Dr. Thomas A. Habegger (center) accepted the award for Dr. Johnson. Dean of Academic Affairs Phil Douthitt (left) and Interim Campus President Paul Kreider (right) presented the award.

West Virginia University Potomac State College Alumnus Paul E. Gates, DDS, was honored by his alma mater with the inscription of his name on the Duke Anthony Whitmore/Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Academic Achievement Wall, during the College’s 84th Recognition Day Awards ceremony.

West Virginia University Potomac State College Interim President Paul Kreider is pleased to announce the students who earned a place on the Spring 2024 President’s list. To be eligible for the President’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least 12-credit hours of graded courses, excluding courses in which any grade of Audit, Pass or Incomplete is recorded, and must earn a grade-point average of 3.700 or higher for the semester.

WVU Potomac State College Dean of Academic Affairs Phillip Douthitt is pleased to announce the students who earned a place on the Spring 2024 Dean’s List. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled for at least 12-credit hours of graded courses, excluding courses in which any grade of Audit, Pass or Incomplete is recorded, and must maintain a grade-point average of 3.000 to 3.699 for the semester.

Congratulations to the following students:

Sophia Lord, an English and history major from Short Gap, W.Va., was named the Outstanding Student of the Year for 2024 at West Virginia University Potomac State College during the College’s Recognition Day Awards ceremony. Interim Campus President Paul Kreider presented the award.

Terrie Rogers was recently named the 2024 Outstanding Staff Person of the Year at West Virginia University Potomac State College. WVU PSC Interim President Paul Kreider presented the award.

Madison Taylor, a business technology major from Short Gap, W.Va., was recently presented with the Catamounts Climb Higher award at West Virginia University Potomac State College. WVU PSC Interim President Paul Kreider presented the award.

Telina Boyles, a Bachelor of Science in nursing major from Parkersburg, W.Va., has been presented with the Catamounts Climb Higher award at West Virginia University Potomac State College. WVU PSC Interim President Paul Kreider presented the award.

WVU Potomac State College student athletes were recognized at the CESPY Awards for individual and team accomplishments throughout the academic year.
