Showing Their Support: WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus students crochet caps for cancer patients

KEYSER, W.Va. — West Virginia University School of Nursing Keyser Campus students are supporting local high school student Alyson Smith’s community service project to provide gift bags to cancer patients at Potomac Valley Hospital’s new Cancer Center.

Led by Dr. Diana Niland, junior-level Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students Ashleigh Burgess, Cristin Carnell, Aslyn Didawick, and Mariah Durr crocheted caps and donated them to Alyson’s project. Mackenzie Cook chose the main crochet pattern, and along with Stacy Gallant and the other students, helped to write encouraging note cards to accompany the crocheted caps.

Potomac State College-Community Concert Band to perform April 5

The West Virginia University Potomac State College-Community Concert Band will present a concert on Tuesday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Church-McKee Arts Center.  

The concert is free and open to the public and will feature Potomac State students and community members from the surrounding tri-state area.

Alexis Orndorff named Catamounts Climb Higher award recipient

Alexis Orndorff, from Romney, W.Va., was chosen as a Catamounts Climb Higher award recipient at West Virginia University Potomac State College. Orndorff is no stranger to challenges, having been previously diagnosed with leukemia, then gone into remission only to have a relapse in the middle of a pandemic.

Potomac State College faculty to offer more fun, engaging, hands-on presentations during upcoming STEM Festival, March 26

One of the many presentations will be the demonstration of Healthy Lungs vs. a Simulated Smoker’s Lungs during the Mineral County STEM Festival to be held Saturday, March 26, from noon to 4 p.m., on the campus of WVU Potomac State College, in Keyser. W.Va. This free event is open to students, K-12, their families and to members of the region.
