Chris Gilmer to serve as interim president of WVU Potomac State College

Chris Gilmer portrait MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – A first-generation college graduate who rose to become a leader in higher education, published author and champion for underserved students has been selected to serve as the interim president of West Virginia University Potomac State College .

Chris Gilmer, currently president of West Virginia University at Parkersburg, will begin his two-year appointment at the Keyser Campus on July 1, 2022.

WVU eases mask requirements on PRT, university buses across all campuses

Passengers are no longer required to wear masks while riding on West Virginia University’s Public Rapid Transit or buses across the WVU System, beginning today (April 20) and pending any additional guidance after a federal court ruling this week.

While the University’s PRT and buses are now mask optional, masks are welcome and remain an important preventive measure against COVID-19. Anyone who needs or chooses to wear one is encouraged to do so.

Local artwork currently on display at Mary F. Shipper Library

The Mountain Arts Guild currently has an arts exhibit located on the west wing of the Mary F. Shipper Library’s second floor which includes creations by 12 local artists. These works were showcased during a member show at the beginning of April and will remain on display for the general public through mid-May.

Showing Their Support: WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus students crochet caps for cancer patients

KEYSER, W.Va. — West Virginia University School of Nursing Keyser Campus students are supporting local high school student Alyson Smith’s community service project to provide gift bags to cancer patients at Potomac Valley Hospital’s new Cancer Center.

Led by Dr. Diana Niland, junior-level Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students Ashleigh Burgess, Cristin Carnell, Aslyn Didawick, and Mariah Durr crocheted caps and donated them to Alyson’s project. Mackenzie Cook chose the main crochet pattern, and along with Stacy Gallant and the other students, helped to write encouraging note cards to accompany the crocheted caps.
