The NJCAA Announced the 2023 DII Softball All-American Teams Tuesday afternoon. All-American selections are made by the NJCAA DII Softball Committee.
Alexa Shoemaker received First Team All-American honors for her stellar freshman season. She finished the season with 75 runs, 92 hits, and 78 RBIs. Shoemaker had 21 doubles and 22 homeruns with a .586 AVG and 1.140 SLG. Shoemaker led the region in AVG, RBI, and HR. In NJCAA, she finished 2nd in AVG, and tied 14th for both RBI and HR. This year Shoemaker received NJCAA DII Player of the week, NJCAA Region 20 Player of the month, Region 20 All-Tournament Team, Region 20 All-Region First Team, NFCA DII East Region Second team, NFCA DII Second Team All-American, and Potomac State Freshman of the Year.
Molly Alvaro began her career
at West Virginia University Potomac State College as an adjunct instructor. She
was promoted to serve as the Academic Success Center Coordinator in August 2001
and to serve in Accessibility Services in 2020, while also continuing to serve
as an instructor. Alvaro earned tenure track faculty status in 2020 and was named
Outstanding Professor of the Year for 2023 earlier this spring.
West Virginia University Potomac State College held
its 83rd Recognition Day Awards ceremony earlier this spring during the
annual Weekend of Honors. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni were recognized
and presented with various awards.
Sergeant Michael Cannon was recently named the 2023
Outstanding Staff Person of the Year at West Virginia University Potomac State
College. Sgt. Cannon has served as
a University Police officer at the College for more than 32 years. He has also
severed as a firefighter in the Keyser community for 37 years and recognizes
that no greater need exists than that of the safety and security of people.
Each year, at the
direction of the Office of the Provost on the West Virginia University
Morgantown campus, the Academic Advising Council selects honorees for the
Nicholas Evans Awards for Advising Excellence, in recognition of outstanding
advising and mentoring provided by faculty and professional advisors within the
WVU system.
Aubrey Gahagen, a senior in the Bachelor of Science
School of Nursing program, has been presented with the Catamounts Climb Higher
award at West Virginia University Potomac State College.
The West Virginia University Potomac State College/Community
Jazz Ensemble will present a big band jazz concert on Tuesday, April 25 at 7:30
p.m., in the Church-McKee Arts Center auditorium.
The band will perform a variety of big band jazz styles
featuring arrangements by Lennie Neihaus, Eric Richards, Gordon Goodwin, Mike Tomaro,
and an Ellington tribute by John Berry. Featured will be many of the band’s
outstanding soloists as well as vocalist, Beau (Hartman) Maxey.
Richard "RK" Law, a sophomore business administration major from
Beckley, W.Va., was recently named a Catamounts Climb Higher award recipient at
West Virginia University Potomac State College.
