West Virginia University (WVU) Potomac State College (PSC) will recognize Charlisa Cummins, Class of 2005, during the College’s Weekend of Honors this spring, at which time she will be inducted into the PSC ‘Athletic Hall of Fame’ at the annual Awards Banquet.
Cummins soared through the Catamounts basketball seasons scoring more than a thousand points, while creating all-time records at the College, with 522 points during the 2003-2004 season, and 564 points during the 2004-2005 season.
Cummins had 491 career rebounds, with 107 assists and 144 steals. She was named All-WPCC for both years while at Potomac State, All-Region XX her sophomore year, and was named Most Valuable Player for the 2005 Region XX Tournament. Cummins also played on the team that won the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference Title, and the first Region XX Championship to be achieved in women’s sports at the College, leading the team to the National Tournament in Phoenix, Az.
Cummins was a winner on and off the court, being named to the PSC President’s List of Distinguished Students for her academic achievements; to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Basketball Distinguished Academic All-American for 2004-2005; and as the ‘PSC Female Athlete of the Year’ for 2004-2005.
After graduating from PSC with an associate degree in civil engineering, Cummins attended Point Pork University in Pittsburgh, Pa. on a basketball scholarship where she earned a degree in civil engineering technology, graduating cum laude in 2007. While there she was named American Mideast Conference Women’s Basketball North Division Newcomer of the Year, and Second Team All-Conference.
In 2011, Cummins joined the Maryland Army National Guard, where she graduated with honors in basic training and with distinguished honors in advance individual training, which included a military occupational specialty of aviation operations specialist. She currently holds the rank of Sergeant. Cummins has also worked for a private engineering consultant firm for more than 10 years.
Cummins, who recently completed a master’s degree in accounting with the University of Maryland, had this to say, “I’m still very physically active, playing in multiple basketball recreational leagues, as well as flag football.”
