The WVU School of Nursing Potomac State College Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program will accept applications for fall 2019 admission from December 1, 2018, through January 15, 2019.  Acceptance into the program is competitive and spaces are limited to 24 students each fall. 

Pre-Nursing Admission to the BSN Program

Pre-nursing students, transfer students, other college majors, and those who do not meet the direct admission criteria may apply for admission to the WVUSON Potomac State BSN program after one semester of college coursework. Applications are accepted from December 1 through January 15 each year. A Pre-Nursing BSN program applicant must meet the following criteria:

Steps to apply to our BSN program as a Pre-Nursing Applicant:

  1. Confirm that you meet the overall GPA, prerequisite GPA, and prerequisite coursework requirements.
  2. Note that the deadline for application is January 15; applicants have until January 31 to get all documents (transcripts and ACT/SAT scores) submitted.
  3. Apply to Potomac State College of WVU.  Note: If you are currently a Potomac State College student, SKIP THIS STEP and move to Step 4; you do not have to reapply to the college. If you are NOT currently a Potomac State College student, complete the Potomac State College application by clicking on this link. You will need to Sign Up for an account, Start a New Application , and make sure you select Potomac State College at Keyser Campus , Type of Student: Transfer or Second Degree , whichever is applicable for you, and Program You are Applying for: Nursing (pre-WVU BSN) . Answer the other questions as applicable to you and complete the entire application. Be sure to submit your official high school transcript, college transcripts for all previous work completed, and ACT/SAT scores. Transcripts/Scores must be official, may be in paper or electronic format, and must be submitted to the Potomac State Office of Enrollment Services. An application must be complete, including all documents, to be considered for admission.
  4. Apply to the WVU School of Nursing.  Complete the WVU School of Nursing application by clicking on this link.  Note: At first, the School of Nursing application will look identical to the Potomac State application, but you will have sections where you may choose to upload documents for an admission statement, previous activities, and honors.  You will need to Sign In, Start a New Application , and make sure you select Potomac State College at Keyser Campus , Type of Student: Internal , Program You are Applying for: Nursing BSN , and Term: Fall 2019 . Completion of this application is required for consideration for the BSN program.  An application must be complete to be considered for admission.
  5. Pre-Nursing students admitted to the BSN nursing program are notified by e-mail, usually in April.
  6. All students accepted for admission to the BSN nursing program must attend an orientation session before they begin nursing classes in the sophomore year. Students will receive information about this in a welcome letter sent out by e-mail, usually in May.
  7. All sophomore, junior, and senior nursing students must participate in the laptop program (see Laptop Program below).

Laptop Program

All students entering the WVU School of Nursing: Potomac State Campus BSN program at the sophomore level must have a laptop and bring it to class/lab/clinical every day. The laptop is used for testing and completion of coursework in most of the nursing courses throughout the BSN curriculum.
