Social Club at Potomac State College Recognizes Employees

The Social Club at West Virginia University Potomac State College recently celebrated the retirement of several employees, including (l-r): Barry Harrison, Lorene Harrison, Rebecca Wilkins, Debra Wilson, Harlan Shreve, and Kathryn Ludwick, (not pictured Judy Ninesteel, Mary Ellen Vandenberg, and Richard Hunt). Michael Simpson (far right) was recognized for 25 years-of-service. 

Faculty, staff, family, and friends gathered to convey congratulatory wishes to West Virginia University Potomac State College employees.  Acknowledged this past spring during the Social Club Banquet were: Barry Harrison, Lorene Harrison, Richard Hunt, Kathryn Ludwick, Judy Ninesteel, Harlan Shreve, Mary Ellen Vandenberg, Rebecca Wilkins, and Debra Wilson for retirements.  Recognized for 25 years-of-service was Michael Simpson.  

Barry has held several positions at Potomac State since beginning his career in 1983 as a vehicle driver.  In 1989 he began working in the maintenance department, and then as a mechanic in 1994.  He served in the position of trades specialist lead I in 2003, trades specialist II in 2008, and trades specialist lead II in 2014.  Barry was a two-time recipient of the PSC Safety Award and was a charter member of the PSC Safety Committee until 2017.

Lori has held various positions at PSC which includes serving as a typing clerk III in 1983, a secretary in 1985, an administrative secretary in 1987, and has served as an administrative associate in the maintenance department since 1998.  She has been the recipient of the PSC Safety Award and was nominated twice for Outstanding Staff Person of the Year. 

Hunt began his career at the College in 2009 after being hired as an assistant professor in the English Department.   He was promoted to associate professor in 2015.

Ludwick began working part-time in the computer center while still a student at the College; she became a full-time employee upon graduation in1988.  For the past 29 years, Ludwick has held several positions, including: computer programmer; information systems specialist, GroupWise unit coordinator; and eCampus point-of-contact.  She was awarded the Computer Programming Technology Award in 1988 and the Student Support Services Staff Honoree of the Year for 2005 and 2010. 

Ninesteel began her career at the College in 1993 when she was hired as a visiting instructor in physical science and geology.  She was promoted to instructor in 1995; assistant professor in 1998; associate professor in 2003; and professor in 2008. 

Shreve began his career at the College as a programmer III in 1972.  Other positions he has held include: applications systems analyst/programmer I in 1990; applications systems analyst/programmer senior in 1994; interim assistant director in 2002; chief business officer in 2006; business planning officer senior in 2009; and has served as the executive director of campus operations since 2015.  

Vandenberg began her career at Potomac State in 1998, serving as an instructor in psychology and counseling.  She has served as a division chair, chair of the Assessment Council, and as secretary for Faculty Assembly at the College.  She was also named the Outstanding Professor of the Year for 2002.

Wilkins began her career at the College as a lecturer in English from 1987 to 1991.  She served as interim housing coordinator in 1989, as director of Residence Life from 1995 to 2001, and served as a financial aid counselor from 2001 until her retirement.  She served as the College representative for the Advisory Council of Classified Employees from 1987 to 1995; as a member of the PSC Institutional Board of Advisors from 1996 to 2005; and as the Alumni Activities Coordinator from 1997 to 2002.  Wilkins was recognized in 2005 with the Student Support Services Staff Honoree of the Year award.    

Wilson began her 40-year career at the College in 1977 serving as faculty secretary.  She assumed the position of administrative assistant in the Academic Affairs Office in 2010.  Wilson has served as past secretary of the PSC Social Club, and as the College representative for the Advisory Council of Classified Employees for one year. 

Michael Simpson began his career at the College in 1993 as a resident assistant and program advisor.  Other positions he has held at the College include: resident hall associate in 1994; coordinator of Housing Service and Residence Learning in 2000; residence life specialist in 2003; and as interim director of facilities in 2005.   He has served as the director of facilities since 2006.
