While in graduate school, Hudgins tutored English language learners at Temple’s writing center and advised English majors on their academic and professional careers. She also served as a program coordinator at Temple’s Center for Learning and Student Success.
Hudgins’ success in the classroom was recognized in 2012, when she received Temple’s First-Year Writing Program Outstanding Instructor Award. She was also a finalist for the Distinguished Graduate Teaching Award, a college-wide competition at Temple. Hudgins was granted multiple research awards from Temple University as well.
After college, Hudgins taught job-related English skills to a Pakistani refugee family and Spanish speaking employees. Previous work also includes serving as an instructor at St. Joseph’s University, and for the AmeriCorps organization where she helped lead a diverse team in New York to support an elementary school with services like playground improvements, after-school programing and parent-engagement nights.
Hudgins states “My goal as a composition teacher is to help my students see how language and ideas operate, not just on the space of the page, but also in the spaces of their own personal and professional lives.”
