Marshall to be inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame at Potomac State College

West Virginia University (WVU) Potomac State College (PSC) will recognize Raymond Marshall, Class of 1973, during the College’s Weekend of Honors this spring, at which time he will be inducted into the PSC ‘Athletic Hall of Fame’ during the annual Awards Banquet.

Marshall played linebacker on the Catamounts football team from 1971 to 1973.  In addition to being named to the All-Conference Team for both seasons, Marshall was also named Team Defensive Player of the Year, and the Outstanding Defensive Player in the All-Star Game.  He was selected as an All-American Honorable Mention, and was the leading tackler on the team.

After a visit with then-coach Bobby Bowden, Marshall headed to WVU on the Morgantown campus where he served as the starting linebacker for two years, leading the Mountaineers in tackles (246), and was named the Outstanding Team Defensive Player for 1975.  During that same year, Marshall was also named the third all-time leader in unassisted tackles for the season, and the third all-time leader for total tackles in a season.

Marshall was an instrumental player in the 1975 Peach Bowl game against the North Carolina State Wolfpack.  According to game reports, Marshall was a dynamic powerhouse to be reckoned with as the Mountaineer defense controlled the Wolfpack line.  He made several big tackles pushing the Wolfpack for a loss, with an important tackle late in the game which prevented the Wolfpack from scoring, leading to a 13-10 win for the Mountaineers, and earning Marshall ‘Defensive Most Valuable Player’ honors for the game.

Upon earning a bachelor’s degree in political science at WVU, Marshall attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law before transferring to Wake Forest University School of Law where he graduated with a juris doctorate degree in 1989.

Marshall opened the Law Offices of Raymond M. Marshall in 1992 in Winston-Salem, NC, where he and his wife, Sharon live and where he continues practicing law.

Reservations are required for the banquet and can be made by contacting Alumni Coordinator Derek Artimez at 304-788-6870 or at PSC-Alumni@mail.wvu.edu. no later than April 16.  For further information, visit www.potomacstatecollege.edu.
