West Virginia University (WVU) Potomac State College (PSC) will recognize Joe Agreste, Class of 2007, during the College’s Weekend of Honors this spring, at which time he will be inducted into the PSC ‘Athletic Hall of Fame’ at the annual Awards Banquet.

Under the direction of Head Baseball Coach Doug Little, Agreste soared through the Catamounts 2006 and 2007 seasons creating all-time records at the College, including: in sixth place with 127 hits; sixth in runs with 104; third in runs batted in with 103; and eighth in triples with 9; as well as placing sixth with 55 walks.  After his freshman season, Agreste, who played infield, had a batting average of .348 and was named to the NJCAA College World Series All-Tournament Team.

Agreste was also named to the All-Eastern District & Region XX 1st Team for both seasons, and was a Major League Baseball draft pick by the Seattle Mariners in 2006.  He was a pre-season NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention in 2007, and was named to the NJCAA All-American 2nd Team in 2007.

During his time at Potomac State, the Catamounts baseball team was named Region XX Champions for both years; Super Regional Champions in 2006, and placed 5th at the Junior College World Series.

After transitioning to WVU’s main campus in Morgantown (Class of 2009), Agreste was named to the All-Big East Conference team, and was the Valley League #7 prospect.  He also signed with the Gateway Grizzlies in 2009 and was named their Rookie of the Year, as well as Baseball America #7 prospect of All-Independent Baseball.  He was later signed as a free agent by the San Diego Padres, was twice-drafted by the Seattle Mariners, and has served as a scout for two professional baseball teams, the Washington Nationals and the Texas Rangers.

Additionally, Agreste has served as a professional baseball instructor at camps giving personal instruction to athletes, and as the baseball coach at Atlantic Shores Christian High School, leading them to win the 2013 State Championship, which earned them a rank of 29th by Maxpreps.Com., a resource for America’s high school sports.

In addition to working in sales for Wesco Distribution for three years, Agreste currently serves as the baseball coach at Tallwood High School.  It’s also interesting to note that Agreste coached with his brother and father at Atlantic Shores, and they continue to coach together at Tallwood.

Agreste currently resides in Chesapeake, Va. with his wife, Amanda, and their two dogs.  They are excited to welcome their first child (a boy!!) in May.

Reservations are required for the banquet and can be made by contacting Alumni Coordinator Derek Artimez at 304-788-6870 or at PSC-Alumni@mail.wvu.edu.  no later than April 16.  For further information, visit www.potomacstatecollege.edu.
