Potomac State College of West Virginia University recently recognized Sara Sredy during a special ceremony with the inscription of her name on the Duke Anthony Whitmore/Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Academic Achievement Wall.  Additionally, Sredy was recognized with the W.E. Michael Biology award.

Sredy is a biology major from Somerset, Pa., and a graduate of Somerset Area Sr. High School.  She is an Honors Student, has been named to the Presidents List for all semesters that she’s attended Potomac State, and is the recipient of the Thomas R. and Bess Bosley Scholarship.

Sredy served as secretary of the Life Science Club, vice-president of the Catamounts Against Cancer Club, and was a member of Campus Crusade for Christ, and Cross Impact.

She also serves as an acolyte at Messiah Lutheran Church where she volunteers often with various service projects including food banks, quilting projects, and vacation Bible school to name a few.

Sredy has volunteered with the Somerset Hospital Giving Tree Project, Christmas caroling at Patriot Manor nursing home, Somerset County Humane Society, and organized a spaghetti dinner to raise money for the HydrAid Water Filter project.

Furthermore, Sredy volunteers with the National Honor Society on projects such as the lunch-buddy program and the princess breakfast, and also participates with 4-H by helping set up animal pens at the county fair.

To be considered for the award, students must meet the following rigorous criteria:  (1) the student must be a full-time sophomore; (2) the student must have carried a minimum of 14 semester hours for each of the semesters considered; (3) the student must have been named to the Campus President’s List for the first three semesters with no failing grades; (4) the student must have at least two campus leadership and/or service roles; and (5) the student’s conduct must be above reproach.  It must also be ascertained that the student has presented no disciplinary problems to the college community.
